Introduction
Organization admins and Sub-Admins use Trepy Communications to share updates with followers and members. The most common support question is: “I published something — why did nobody get a message?” This guide explains the difference between publishing (making content visible) and notifying (actively alerting an audience).

After reading this article, you will be able to:
- Explain what publishing does — and does not do — in Trepy
- Explain what notifying does across in-app, email, and SMS channels

Publishing in Trepy
Publishing makes content visible in Trepy — for example, a post on your organization page or an event that is open for registration.
Publishing does not automatically send a push notification, email, or SMS. Followers discover published content when they visit your organization, event page, or home feed.
| Action | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Publish a post | Adds content to your organization feed | Season schedule announcement |
| Publish an event | Makes registration or tickets available | Spring gala registration |
| Save as draft | Content is not public yet | Work-in-progress fundraiser page |
Notifying in Trepy
Notifying actively alerts a selected audience through Trepy channels — in-app message, email, or SMS (when enabled for your organization).
Notifying is how you tell a defined group to read something now — for example, all followers, ticket holders for one event, or members of a sub-unit.
| Channel | Best for |
|---|---|
| In-app message | Quick updates inside Trepy |
| Formal announcements, links, reminders | |
| SMS | Time-sensitive alerts (when enabled) |
Publishing vs notifying — quick comparison
| Question | Publishing | Notifying |
|---|---|---|
| Makes content visible? | Yes | Not always — can alert about existing content |
| Sends an alert? | No | Yes |
| Audience finds it passively? | Yes | No — you push to them |
| Good for urgent changes? | Sometimes | Usually yes |
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Why did publishing not send a message? | Publishing does not notify by default | Send a separate notification to your audience |
| Followers did not see my update | You published but did not notify | Notify followers or confirm they visit your organization page |
| Members got an alert but see nothing new | You notified about draft or restricted content | Publish the content first, then notify |
| Wrong people received a message | Audience scope too broad | Review audience targeting before sending |
Frequently Asked Questions
Does publishing automatically email my followers?
No. Publishing and notifying are separate actions in Trepy.
Can I notify followers without publishing a new post?
Yes. You can target communications to followers or ticket holders even when the related event page already exists.
Can Sub-Admins publish and notify?
Yes. Sub-Admins can publish and notify within their assigned sub-units. Organization admins control org-wide Communications settings.
